Cold weather runner

As I run through the winter in an attempt to not lose what I gained with my three marathons last year I have realized, much to my chagrin, that I am a cold weather runner.

I feel great running when it is cold outside. I don't need to constantly drink water and then hopefully be running near a port-o-pot or in case of emergency, enough brush covering so that I can, well, you know.

My body apparently does not really handle the heat very well. I love to run when it is warm. My body on the other hand does not like it at all. I have been given advice that I should have my thyroid checked because my body can't regulate it's temperature well. At least this is what others have observed as the sweat pours off of me like I just got out of the shower. The other piece of advice is that I should eat more salt to help my body retain water. I stand by the fact that this is my body and that is what it is. I have been this way my whole life.

However when running in the winter I don't suddenly sweat so much that I am instantly dehydrated.

It is hard for me. I feel like I am losing something that I cherished in running; being outside when the trees are green, the sky blue and the birds chirping. Summer is my favorite season and now I feel like I can't enjoy it as much as I want or used to. Ah well. Like all of life's other curve balls, I can learn how to deal with this one too.
